Panasonic Announces Price, Release Date for 32GB SDHC Card

Feb. 12, 2008 - Panasonic today announced the price and release date for its 32GB SDHC card, first unveiled last month at CES in Las Vegas. The world's first 32GB, Class 6 SDHC card will retail for $699 when it is released in April.

Panasonic claims that the card can hold about 12,320 images recorded at 10 megapixels or up to 12 hours of high-definition video. As a Class 6 SDHC card, it records at a maximum data transfer speed of 20 MB per second.

SanDisk released a 32GB SDHC Class 4 card of its own at PMA this month. This records at a slower 15 MB/s, which may make it less suitable for HD video recording and capturing large images. It retails for much less, however, at $350, and will also ship in April.

Panasonic's card has a labeling feature, so users can write notes or titles on the front and back of the card. The flash memory also allows the card to work in extreme temperatures - from -13 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit.
