PC Mag Reviews Eye-Fi SD Card

Eye-Fi SD cardPC Mag last week posted its review on the Eye-Fi SD card that wirelessly transfers images from the memory card to a PC or Mac computer automatically. Whereas most camera manufacturers regurgitated the same old stuff by putting point-and-shoot features into SLRs like live view and face detection, the Eye-Fi is one of more intriguing innovations that we’ve seen this year.

The verdict, according to PC Mag, is that the automatic device makes uploading pictures nearly seamless– if under the right conditions. The Eye-Fi card doesn’t work in public Wi-Fi hot spots. RAW shooters also will be out of luck; the Eye-Fi only transmits JPEGs files. While SD cards are typically used for point-and-shoot cameras, select SLRs have made the move to SD media for professional shooters such as the Nikon D40, Panasonic Lumix DMC-L10, and the Pentax K100D. The Eye-Fi SD memory card retails for $99.
