September 29, 2005 – The Olympus Stylus 800’s European counterpart, the mju Digital 800, got a facelift. The Olympus mju Digital 800 will be released in a black color for a limited time in Europe, the company announced today. The weatherproof digital camera will come bundled in a Black Premium Kit with a silver neck strap and a case. The kit will be available in October 2005.
The Olympus mju Digital 800 comes with 8 megapixels on a 1/1.8-inch CCD and a TruePic Turbo image processor. This digital camera boasts BrightCapture Technology, which enhances lighting in dim scenes. The 800 has an ISO range from 64-400, but with the technology can be expanded up to ISO 800 and 1600. Unfortunately when this is done, users can only shoot in a 3-megapixel image size.
The 4.1 x 2.3 x 2.1-inch mju Digital 800 comes in glossy dark blue and silver colors currently. The black color brings the 800’s metal housing color options to three. This Olympus comes with a 3x optical zoom lens and a large 2.5-inch LCD screen with 215,000 pixels and a 160-degree viewing angle.
The camera body is packed with popular features as well. The Olympus mju Digital 800 has 19 scene modes, plus priority modes. There is also a VGA movie mode that records sound simultaneously. The camera also has a 4 frame-per-second burst mode, but can only shoot that in a 3.9-megapixel image size. Rounding out the feature set is a nice amount of internal memory: 32 megabytes. The Olympus Stylus 800 retails for $449.99 in the United States, which is about £255.
