August 23, 2006 – With the debut of its fall line-up, Olympus Imaging America, Inc. announced today its new premium all-weather point-and-shoot, the 10 megapixel Stylus 1000. The high ISO, 3x optical zoom camera will retail for $399.99 when it becomes available in September.
The “double digit megapixel point-and-shoot,” as today’s Olympus release calls it, holds the highest megapixel count of any current Olympus model, including the EVOLT E-500 DSLR. The Olympus Stylus 1000 holds two more megapixels over the previous flagship, the 8 megapixel Stylus 810.
The new Stylus 1000 borrows features from the 810, including the 3x optical zoom lens with f/2.8 aperture and the 2.5-inch LCD with 230,000 pixel monitor resolution. Both cameras possess a digital image stabilization mode, Bright Capture technology, and all-weather protective seals to protect against rain. For $50 more than its predecessor, the Stylus 1000 has more resolution and the highest ISO sensitivity which ranges up to 6400, and is much higher than the Stylus 810’s max ISO of 3200.
The Olympus Stylus 1000 possesses a new Perfect Fix feature, also included in the new Stylus 730 introduced today. The Perfect Fix corrects red eye and exposure, and includes a digital image stabilization edit mode that uses data from a gyrosensor to determine if the camera was shaken while the picture was taken.
