Olympus is bringing some big-zoom boom to its compact camera line-up with the Stylus-9000, a 6.5-ounce pocket-friendly device with a hefty 10x optical zoom, priced at $350 and due in February. We took a hands-on tour of the camera at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Here are our First Impressions.

We enjoyed shooting with the Olympus SP-570UZ ultra-zoom,with its 20x telephoto power (see review here), and our take on a pre-production version of the 590UZ (see First Impression here) was positive as well. Still, there's no denying that these ultra-zoom heavyweights are, relatively speaking, heavyweights, compared to the portability of the average point-and-shoot camera. With the Stylus-9000, Olympus is trying to split the difference, delivering a 10x zoom lens in a camera that weighs just six and a half ounces, at a $350 price. The camera is due to ship in February, but we had the opportunity to put a pre-production version of the Stylus-9000 through its paces at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Here's our First Impression.
