Olympus SP-590UZ Digital Camera Review

Olympus SP-590UZ

First Impressions Review

3.9 Olympus kicked it up a notch at the Consumer Electronics Show by introducing the most powerful ultra-zoom available, the SP-590UZ, with an extraordinary 26x magnification in a reasonably compact camera. We had the opportunity to work hands-on with a pre-production sample.

You can't be too rich, too skinny, or have a too-powerful zoom lens. With this in mind, Olympus has upped the maximum ultra-zoom spec available to an impressive 26x, in a camera that may not be skinny, but is certainly easy to carry, and at $449.99 isn't strictly for the rich. We had the chance to put a pre-production sample through its paces at the Consumer Electronics Show and, while the all-important image quality test evaluations will have to wait till we have a sample in our labs, we can say authoritatively that the camera is nicely balanced for easy handling, quite full-featured and a lot of fun to shoot with.
