Olympus Introduces All-Weather Stylus 760

January 25, 2007 – As part of their spring 2007 line up, Olympus announced the Stylus 760 with a weatherproof body and a new LCD Backlight Boost Button. The 7.1-megapixel camera will retail for $249.99 when it becomes available next month.

"Stylus digital cameras are renowned for their ability to withstand the elements," stated a company press release today. With an all-metal body and rubber seals, the Stylus 760 can be used outdoors, in rain, snow, and sleet, according to the release.

The new Olympus Stylus 760, like the Stylus 750 before it, carries 7.1 megapixels. The Stylus 760, however, downgrades to a 3x optical zoom which is down from a 5x optical zoom lens on the previous model. The new Stylus 760 carries an equally-sized 2.5-inch LCD but with an increased 230,000 pixel LCD resolution and a reported 140 degree angle of  view.

The Stylus 760 does, however, improve upon the older model with the newly added LCD Backlight Boost Button, that is also seen on the Stylus 760SW announced with it today. The Backlight Boost Button increases monitor brightness for viewing photos in direct sunlight or underwater.

The Stylus 760 includes Olympus’s Dual Image Stabilization with a CCD shifting mechanism for reducing camera shake and digital stabilization for moving subjects. The camera comes complete with a TruePic Turbo Image Processor and Bright Capture technology with a maximum sensitivity of 1600 ISO.

The camera has 26 shooting modes including a movie mode of 640x480 at 15fps. The camera also possesses 3 underwater dedicated modes for users who opt to purchase the additional underwater housing accessory, the PT-036 for use up to 130ft. below the surface.

To aid beginner users, the Olympus Stylus 760 comes with Help Guides with text-based descriptions and in-camera editing functions, including red-eye fix, brightness adjustment, resizing, and frames and text. The camera is compatible with Li-ion batteries and xD media.
