Olympus EVOLT E-330 Digital Camera Review

Olympus EVOLT E-330

First Impressions Review

3.1 The Four Thirds cameras introduced before the E-330 didn't really differentiate themselves from more typical DSLRs through image quality or usability, but the E-330 adds live preview – a fundamentally new feature for DSLRs. At $1099 with a 14-45mm lens, the E-330 is poised to attract new DSLR users who are looking for a more capable camera than the other sub-$1000 offerings.

Olympus EVOLT E-330

Likes
- Live view LCD is unique, and very good quality for composition
- Solid construction and quality fit and finish
- Controls are clear and thorough
Dislikes
- Extended ISO mode starts at 500, indicating a noise problem
- Manual focus is difficult on LCD
- Flashes are placed off-center

Conclusion
Olympus is the first to offer a true live LCD preview on a DSLR. That will be a significant enticement for users moving from a compact digital camera to a digital SLR; it's the technology that makes the EVOLT E-330 the first true transitional camera. On top of this, Olympus added a range of other interesting and useful technology. We hope the EVOLT E-330's image quality can keep up with the rest of its features.
