Olympus Announces 70-300mm Zoom Lens

Olympus 70-300mmJune 26, 2007 – Olympus today launched a new ultra-compact, super telephoto digital lens, the Zuiko Digital ED 70-300mm (f/4.0-5.6). The lens, compatible with the company's EVOLT E-410 and E-510 consumer DSLRs, is lightweight and ideal for photographers on the go. The lens will retail for $399.99 when it is available in September.

The lens measures 3.15 inches x 5 inches and weighs 1.36 pounds.

"Previously, consumers avoided carrying large, cumbersome lenses, ultimately missing photographs,' said Olympus Imaging America Inc. senior marketing manager John Knaur in a company press release today. "Consumers can now get close to subjects while carrying a smaller lens that won’t weigh them down."

The Olympus Zuiko Digital ED has a 70-300mm focal length, equivalent to 140-600mm in traditional 35mm format. The lens can focus as close as 38 inches for macro photography. Zuiko Digital Specific lenses have CPUs that allow users to update firmware, which can address lens problems such as shading and barrel distortion, according to the release. Like other Zuiko lenses, the new lens has lead-free, titanium construction with 14 elements in 10 groups, including three ED lenses.

Users can choose manual or automatic focus and match the new lens with other E-System and Four-Thirds mounted cameras.

The Olympus Zuiko Digital ED 70-300mm (f/4.0-5.6) lens comes with a lens cap, lens hood, lens rear cap, manual, and warranty.
