Olympus Adds Low-Cost E-600 SLR

August 31, 2009 – Olympus has announced the E-600 digital SLR, a close cousin to the existing E-620, with a handful of features removed and $100 sliced from the price tag.

The two cameras have more similarity than differences. They share the same 12.3-megapixel sensor, body shape and size, 2.7-inch articulated LCD  and 4-frame-per-second burst speed. Both cameras use the TruePic III+ processor, and offer image stabilization built into the camera body.

The E-620 offers six Art Filters, used to add digital effects while shooting; the E-600 offers three out of six (Pop Art, Soft Focus and Pinhole). The in-camera multiple exposure capability, illuminated buttons and choice of aspect ratio from the E-620 are also missing from the E-600.

The Olympus E-600 is scheduled to ship in November for $599.99, including an ED 14-42mm f/3,5-5.6 lens.
