Nikon and Fuji Issue Service Announcements For Focusing Trouble With Nikkor VR 18-200mm Lens

March 16, 2006 - Nikon and Fuji today issued service advisories to users of the Zoom-Nikkor AF-S DX VR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED lens, stating that if the lens is used in conjunction with the Nikon D70, D2H, or D100, as well as the Fujifilm S2 or S3 Pro bodies, users may have a problem focusing under certain conditions.

If the lens is set to infinity and the zoom is in the wide angle position, photographers may have difficulty getting the autofocus to zoom on close up subjects. Nikon states that this is a problem with the firmware of their cameras and has nothing to do with the lens. Details on what consumers can do to remedy this problem can be found here:

Similarly, Fuji has issued an announcement that if photographers use the Nikon AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED lens in combination with their FinePix S3 and S2 Pro, the exact same problem may be experienced.
