July 9, 2007 – Nikon has paired with Kaboose Inc. to launch Kaboose Photo, a family-oriented photo sharing site. The site is expected to launch this month.
"We are thrilled to be partnering with Nikon, a leader in digital imaging, on the launch of the Kaboose Photo site," said Michael Fogarty, chief revenue officer of Kaboose, in a press release. "Nikon and Kaboose are a great fit, as we both strive to make it easier for moms and families to share their lives through photos."
Kaboose, which owns family sites such as BabyZone and ParentZone, will launch Kaboose Photo with the intent of giving parents a family-friendly place to showcase their photographs. Nikon is not the first company to pair with a photo sharing site; in 2005, HP paired with SnapFish, Kodak with EasyShare Gallery, and Fujifilm has teamed up with Your Pix.
"We look to align ourselves with media partners who are breaking new ground in consumer entertainment, education and engagement by furthering consumer dialog," says Lisa Baxt, senior communications manager for Nikon Inc, in a press release. "We are confident that Kaboose's new photo channel will enable and encourage consumers to interact and share their world through photography."
What will differ between the Kaboose/Nikon partnership, however, will be the family-oriented aspect. Also unique to the collaboration is the focus of each company; Nikon markets to a chic, trendy crowd, with cameras starting at $250 and up. Kaboose, however, caters to families.
