Nikon Unveils Wi-Fi Coolpix S7C
August 24, 2006 – As part of the renovation of the Nikon Coolpix product line, Nikon Corp. announced its newest wi-fi enabled Coolpix camera, the S7C. The 7.2 megapixel camera will retail for $379 when it becomes available on September 22.
The Nikon Coolpix S7C is the successor to the S6 launched in February, at a pricey $449. At $70 less, the new 7.2 megapixel S7C carries a greater megapixel count over the 6 megapixel S6 model.
The Coolpix S7C is hailed as one of the more sophisticated and technologically advanced point-and-shoot cameras Nikon has ever offered, according to company representatives. The wi-fi camera has a new "Coolpix Connect" feature, which as the name implies, enables users to directly email photos and thumbnails from their cameras. While the wi-fi feature is nothing new to the Coolpix product line (also found in the S6, P1, P2, and P3), users will now receive a one-year T-mobile membership for free internet connection, included in the package. The Coolpix Connect will also include an address book for up to 10 saved contacts.
Both the S7C and the older make, the S6, are fitted with a 3x ED glass optical zoom lens and 3-inch LCD screen. The S7C retains the electronic vibration reduction and camera body design from the S6. The S7C also borrows the one-touch portrait button from the previous model, a feature that activates the face-priority AF, red-eye fix, and D-lighting. The S7C is also PictBridge compatible.
