Nikon Coolpix L100 Digital Camera Review

Nikon Coolpix L100

Digital Camera Review

2.7 The new Nikon L100 ultrazoom is sober and professional-looking camera compared to the brightly-colored Nikon compact models. With a 15x wide-angle zoom lens and a $279 pricetag, the 10-megapixel L100 is an intriguing addition to Nikon's product lineup. We had the chance to take a pre-production sample for a test drive at PMA in Las Vegas, and here's what we discovered.

Conclusion

UPDATE: our full review of the L100 is now live.

We had grand visions of tweaking settings on the L100 beyond what we normally find on your average compact point-and-shoot, but we were sorely disappointed by the lack of virtually any manual controls. Regardless, we found it to be an easy-to-use camera with controls and menus that barely require a glance at the user guide, and we liked its professional good looks. The 15x zoom is impressive, so we're looking forward to putting the L100 through the testing gauntlet to see how well it stands up to some tough competition in the ultra-zoom space.
