September 26, 2005 – Nikon issued service advisories today for two of their digital single lens reflex cameras. The company stated that a few Nikon D2H and D70 models were experiencing problems, according to a press release from Nikon Hong Kong Ltd. The company also released an advisory for the Nikon N55 film camera because some models were experiencing auto focus problems. Nikon is repairing the problems free of charge.
According to the advisory, some Nikon D2H models have problems automatically focusing and some of the electronic analog exposure displays freeze up, which prohibits users from changing exposure settings. A few of the Nikon D70 models have locked up and shown the blinking access lamp when flash cards were inserted. Some models have also simply not turned on when the battery is fully charged and there is no memory card in the camera. Nikon advises photographers to continue using their digital cameras as usual unless these behaviors have been noticed.
Nikon will repair the affected D2H’s and D70’s free of charge. If users have already had the repairs, Nikon will provide a refund. Cameras cannot be repaired at local dealers; they must be fixed directly at Nikon Inc. The company stated that they will repair the cameras within five business days.
