Sample Photos

In the following sample images, clicking on the larger image will download the full resolution original. Each photo is accompanied by four actual-size crops.

Macro Sample

ISO: 264
Shutter speed: 10/587 sec
Aperture: f/3.9
Focal length: 5mm (28mm eqiv.)

This shot of a chilly Boston morning was taken with the camera in program mode, with the focus set to macro. It is fairly sharp in the center of the frame, but it doesn’t have much depth of field, so the ice starts to look somewhat blurry at other points.

Night Sample

ISO: 512
Shutter speed: 1/30 sec
Aperture: f/3.9
Focal length: 5mm (28mm equiv.)

This shot of a local theater was taken late in the evening while a gentle snow was falling with the flash (which is why there are white spots on the shot) with the camera in Program mode. The camera chose a mid-range ISO here, which produces a slightly noisy image. It is also interesting to note that the text on the billboard is mostly blasted out; the camera did not have the dynamic range to capture this.

Zoom Sample

ISO: 476
Shutter speed: 2/587 sec
Aperture: f/5.8
Focal length: 25mm (140mm equiv.)

This zoomed-in shot of a frosty duck shows the performance of the camera at the longest zoom setting. Although the image is sharp art the center of the frame, there is a fair amount of noise (see the noise in the duck’s beak), and the image gets rather soft at the edge of the frame.

Panasonic resists the urge to cram more megapixels and more focal length into their latest ultrazoom. The FZ47 instead focuses on image quality and features, resulting in an incredibly strong camera that we loved shooting with. Read full 16-part review
