Sample Photos

In the following sample images, clicking on the larger image will download the full resolution original. Each photo is accompanied by four actual-size crops.

Macro Sample

Focal length: 15.1mm
ISO: 671
Aperture: f/4.5
Shutter speed: 1/9 of a second

This macro photo of our friendly neighborhood spider shows that the macro can get in pretty close (she was certainly less than happy about it), but the image quality leaves something to be desired. Despite the relatively high ISO setting the camera chose of 671, the image is still rather fuzzy because the camera has a limited aperture range that means it doesn’t have much depth of field.

Low Light (Auto Mode)

Focal length: 12.2mm
ISO: 800
Aperture: f/4.3
Shutter speed: 0.6 seconds

We had a real problem capturing this low light sample, as the camera pretty much refused to focus in low light, even with the AF assist light enabled. We were only able to focus by moving the focus target down to the center of the color target, which had a higher contrast than the flowers, focusing the camera and then panning back up to the shot we wanted. The camera upped the ISO to 800, but the upshot is that the image is grainy and noisy and many fine details are lost.

Low Light (High Sensitivity Mode)

Focal length: 12.2mm
ISO: 3200
Aperture: f/4.3
Shutter speed: 0.1 seconds

Same shot as above, but with the High Sensitivity mode enabled, which increases the ISO range. The L100 took advantage of this, upping the ISO to 3200 and decreasing the shutter speed. But as you can see from the crops below, the noise in the images increased significantly because of this.

MultiShot Mode Sample

Focal length: 8.6mm
ISO: 929
Aperture: Unknown
Shutter speed: Unknown

This sample photo shows the results of the Multi-shot 16 shooting mode, where the camera takes 16 small shots in quick succession and mosaics them together. As you can see, the mode is not quick enough to capture fast movement, but it would be good enough to capture a pass in football.

Color Sample

Focal length: 12.2mm
ISO: 400
Aperture: f/3/5
Shutter speed: 1/80

This shot of a number of common consumer items shows the color that this camera captures. It was taken with a mixture of incandescent and fluorescent light on the full auto setting.
