Digital Camera Review

The Nikon Coolpix 3700 is a compact, lightweight digital camera with a 3.2 megapixel imager and a 5.4-16.2mm 3x optical zoom lens. The dual brushed and matte metal finish adds to the streamlined design, and the reflective metal accents not only add to the look and feel, but help users get a better handle on the camera. Style aside, the Nikon Coolpix 3700 is poised to make those in front of the lens, as well as those behind, look good; but only as long as you’re in automatic mode. There are few actual manual features that can be manipulated on the Nikon Coolpix 3700. Point-and-shoot consumers may rejoice, even at US$399, but digital camera enthusiasts who want real manual control on a small camera should perhaps keep shopping.

Picture Quality / Size Options (5.0)
There is only one type of picture quality setting – sharpening – which has options of auto, low, normal, high, low, and off. I would have liked to see more options available, but this falls into the bare bones theme of the Nikon Coolpix 3700. Image size can also be switched, via the menu button in manual and auto modes, between 2048 x 1536 pixels, 1600 x 1200 pixels, 1024 x 768 pixels, and 640 x 480 pixels.

Picture Effects (0.0)
There are no picture or digital effects available in recording modes on the Nikon Coolpix 3700. This is shocking compared to the large array of effects offered on most other digital cameras on the market. I wonder why Nikon denies the user these options. However, this is not a total loss, as these features tend to be overrated anyhow. Users can always apply effects in the editing stage of digital imaging.
