Nature Photography Day Celebrated

North American Nature Photography AssociationJune 15, 2007 – Today marks the 2nd Annual Nature Photography Day. Spearheaded by non-profit organization North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA), the day promotes environmental protection and nature appreciation.

“It’s a day to view the world with your camera and maybe even advance the cause of conservation,” states the company website.

Established in 1993, NANPA is a non-profit organization based in Colorado. With a membership of 2500 across North America, NANPA promotes awareness and appreciation of nature, according to the website.

The organization's website includes some ideas about how to use images as tools to bring positive changes to the world. While NANPA does not lobby on government for environmental initiatives, it does work closely with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the National Park Service, and the Bureau of Land Management.

“The Foundation focuses on using the camera to educate the public on how to better care for the environment,” states the organization’s website.

The website features photo and environmental resources, as well as student scholarship information and grants. Members can submit their photos to the organization’s website.
