iStockphoto to Offer Cell Phone Wallpaper
April 11, 2007 – iStockphoto yesterday announced a partnership with digital content provider Amuse Entertainment to offer cell phone users a database of wallpapers. UK subscribers to T-Mobile, Virgin Mobile, Vodafone, 3, Orange, and O2 networks, will be able to choose from a collection of 5,000 images."People want their gadgets to feel uniquely theirs, including their mobile phones," said Garth Johnson, iStockphoto vice president of business development, in a company press release.
iStockphoto.com is the world’s most visited stock image and video website, according the release. Users can buy royalty-free images for as little as $1 from the site.
Although the initial launch limits the iStockphoto database to 5,000 photos for cell phone users, the two companies plan to expand the library to 1.5 million. The companies plan to eventually offer the service to cell phone users in the U.S. and Canada.
"iStock has an incredible library of exceptional images which are perfect for the mobile arena," said Amuse CEO and founder Jennifer Koster. "With the trend for personalization on mobile handsets continuing, we feel iStock’s library will appeal to a vast market and are proud to provide our knowledge, experience and platform to help iStock enter the mobile space," she said.
