Live View Function Added in Sony α DSLR-A300 & A350
One of the trends seen this year in digital photography is the inclusion of the Live View Feature in the current crop of DSLRs. A phenomena initially started by Olympus, the Live View feature now is seen as "essential" and is no longer restricted to point and shoot digicams.Sony has also updated their α (alpha) digital SLR line up and added the now much coveted Live View function on the 14.2-megapixel $900 DSLR-A350 and 12.2-megapixel $800 DSLR-A300. The new feature is called Quick AF Live View and unlike other DSLRs one doesn’t need to flip open the mirror as both the cameras use a secondary image sensor.
The Sony α DSLR-A300 will retail for $799 with a 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5 kit lens. The A350 will go on sale in March for $799 body only or $899 for the kit.
"Mainstream users stepping up to DSLRs are looking for a similar experience to their point and shoot cameras, but without compromise in speed or performance," said Phil Lubell, director of marketing for digital cameras at Sony Electronics, in today’s press release. "Quick AF Live View gives these new models a familiar shooting style without compromising speed – ideal for the growing market of first-time SLR users."
