May 3, 2007 – Light Crafts this week released an update to LightZone, a photo editing program. Version 2.4 adds a few new features including a RAW tool and Vibrance control. The Tone Mapper, Black-and-White tool, and Noise Reduction speed have also been upgraded.
As an alternative to photo editing programs such as Adobe Lightroom, LightZone is geared as both a photo manager and editor. The company boasts the program's “intuitive” features.
“While Adobe has made a name for itself in graphic design, its 20-year old pixel-based technology ignores photographic knowledge that can make photo-editing so much more powerful,” said Light Crafts CEO Georges van Hoegaerden in an April 30 company press release. “LightZone employs patented image analysis technology that makes it easy for photographers to reproduce what their eyes saw, rather than the image their camera captured,” said van Hoegaerden.
With LightZone, users can select and hide tool panels on the right side of the main image browser. The latest version of LightZone 2.4 includes updates to the ToneMapper, Vibrance, and Noise Reduction tools, allowing users to make adjustments with a slider tool or enter numerical values.
Users can also convert images to black-and-white with controls for strength and blending.
LightZone 2.4, compatible with RAW, JPEG, TIFF, and DNG file formats, is available for Mac and Windows.
