Lexar Launches Auto Backup SSD Card

Lexar SSDMay 4, 2007 – Flash memory card manufacturer Lexar Media, Inc. this week announced the ExpressCard SSD (Solid State Drive) for notebook computers. The card and the included software automatically backup files (and photos).

Called a “high-performance, lower-cost storage expansion solution,” according to May 2 company press release, the removable Lexar ExpressCard SSD device can be set to automatically backup files daily, weekly, or monthly. After initial setup, the ExpressCard SSD does not require user intervention.

“With auto-backup software, the Lexar ExpressCard SSD will be especially appealing for traveling business people, small and home-office owners, and anyone that wants a secure, hassle-free way to back up important documents and literally add more storage to their laptop,” said Lexar General Manager Farshid Tabrizi of USB Products.

Some newer laptops include dedicated ExpressCard slots, including those made by Dell, HP, Intel, Lenovo, Microsoft, Sony, and Toshiba, according to the release.

The Lexar ExpressCard SSD will be available in 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB capacities and includes software that is compatible with Windows Vista.

“We believe ExpressCard technology clearly represents the new generation for plug-in cards and is destined to replace current PC Card technology,” said Tabrizi.

Pricing and availability has not yet been announced.
