Lensbabies Introduces Wide 0.6x and Telephoto 1.6x Lens Converters

September 21, 2006 – Yesterday, lens manufacturer Lensbabies, LLC announced two new lens converters for their selective focus SLR camera lens, the 0.6x wide angle/macro lens and the 1.6x telephoto conversion lens. The Lensbaby wide angle converter will retail for the $59 and the kit for both converters will be $89.

The new Lensbabies converters are compatible with the company’s Original and 2.0 50mm bellow-like lenses. "Lensbabies are they hybrid love children of an old-fashioned bellows camera and an up-tight tilt-shift lens," according to the company website. With the flexible lens, users can compress the lens like a bendy straw, oscillating in different directions for a gauzy look with selective focus.

When used with the Lensbaby 2.0 and Original 50mm lens, the 0.6x converter changes the focal length to a wide 30mm, and the 1.6x converter alters the focal length to 80mm. With the converters, users will be able to expand the "sweet spot" of selective focus, according to yesterday’s press release.

The Oregan-based company was founded in February 2004 by photographer and inventor Craig Strong. The Lensbaby Original and 2.0 50mm lenses retail for $150 or less and are compatible with Canon, Nikon, Minolta, Pentax, Leica, Olympus, and Contax/Yashica mounts.
