Konica Minolta Introduces 6 Megapixel DiMage Z6

August 19, 2005 – Building on the success of its DiMage line, Konica Minolta today announced the release of the six megapixel DiMage Z6. The Z6 features the same anti-shake technology as the Maxxum 7D SLR, as well as a 12x optical zoom lens.

"The combination of advanced imaging features within the new DiMage Z6 digital camera allows photographers to take exceptionally crisp, sharp photographs in virtually any picture-taking situation," said Paul Zakrzewski, Director of Product Management for Konica Minolta Photo Imaging U.S.A., Inc.

According to Konica Minolta, the blur reduction provided by the DiMage Z6’s anti-shake technology is equivalent to 2-3 stops of additional exposure, enabling users to shoot in conditions that would otherwise require a tripod, flash or higher ISO setting.

The DiMage Z6 features several manual control options. Manual focus is available as are Shutter Priority and Aperture Priority modes.

The DiMage Z6 utilizes 256 segment metering and offers 5-point continuous auto focus, which Konica Minolta says enables the camera to focus within 1/5 of a second. The camera’s 1/2.5-inch CCD offers six effective megapixels of resolution and an ISO range of 50-320.

The Z6 features a GT APO lens with a variable focal length equivalent to 35-240mm in 35mm format, with maximum apertures of f/2.8 at its widest angle and f/4.5 in full telephoto. Shutter speed range is quoted as 15 seconds – 1/1000 of a second, with 30 second exposures available in bulb mode. The camera utilizes Konica Minolta’s proprietary CxProcess III image processing technology and allows users to shoot up to 1.8 frames per second.

A 114,000-pixel, 0.3-inch electronic viewfinder is offered in addition to the camera’s 114,000-pixel, 2-inch TFT LCD screen. Exposure compensation in the standard +/- 2 EV range is available, as is a pop-up flash and an accessory hot shoe.

Other notable features include exposure bracketing, custom white balance, movie capture, a self-timer, USB 2.0, PictBridge compatibility and support for SD cards. The 4.3 x 3.1 x 3.3 inch DiMage Z6 weighs in at 12 ounces and reportedly takes up to 240 shots on four alkaline AA batteries or up to 420 shots with NiMH rechargeable batteries.

The DiMage Z6 is expected to be available in mid September at an estimated street price of $399.
