Las Vegas, January 3, 2006 – Today Kodak has released its latest model in their compact zoom Z-series line. The Kodak EasyShare Z650 is a 6.1 megapixel camera with an impressive Schneider-Kreuznach Variogon 10x optical zoom lens, Kodak Color Science chip, and a live histogram option. It is expected to be available in February at an MSRP of $349 (USD).
The Kodak EasyShare Z650 builds in more manual options for photographers than past Z-series models. The Z650 has a 2.0-inch high resolution LCD screen with a histogram option for more exposure control when shooting. The camera’s burst mode comes with the option to capture the first or last groups of images in a single burst, and outside the burst mode, the Z650 offers flash compensation. In addition to the 10x optical zoom lens, there is also a 5x digital zoom option that Kodak claims delivers better quality photos that the usual digital zoom.
The Kodak EasyShare Z650 still keeps the average shooter in mind, however, by offering 17 scene modes in addition to its automatic, aperture priority, and shutter priority modes. Kodak also touts the EasyShare Z650’s higher precision autofocus and faster “click-to-capture times.” There are 32 MB of memory and a slot for an SD/MMC card.
The EasyShare Z650 has also retained some notably Kodak camera features like digital red-eye reduction, cropping, auto picture rotation, “blurry picture alert,” and a “share” button for quick image export to printer, computer, or Internet. The camera also ships with Kodak EasyShare software for editing, organizing, sharing, and printing images. The new 5.2 version of the EasyShare software, which is on the Z650, includes the “Favorite” feature that will automatically sync with a user's EasyShare-equipped computer, printer, or online album.
