Kodak Announces EasyShare Z612, 12x Optical Zoom Compact For $229

February 17, 2006 – Kodak announced its most affordable Z-series camera today just before the opening of the Photo Marketing Association trade show in Orlando, Florida. The Kodak EasyShare Z612 has a long Schneider-Kreuznach 12x zoom lens and 6 megapixels. The new digital camera will retail for $299 in April and will be the least expensive option in Kodak’s ultra zoom lineup.

The Kodak EasyShare Z612 has an abundance of features atypical of its low price point. The Z612 has 16 scene modes and 5 color modes as well as manual and priority modes. There is also a movie mode that can record 640 x 480 pixels at 30 frames per second. Even better is the camera’s ability to use the optical zoom in movie mode with Kodak’s image stabilization system and to extract still images from the video. Playback also has many options; this EasyShare incorporates in-camera editing features like cropping, rotating, and even image enhancement.

“The EasyShare Z-series cameras offer a vast array of user-friendly features in a compact model with advanced controls that allow users to dive into photography and achieve more satisfying results,” said Mary Hadley, general manager of digital cameras for Kodak’s Consumer Digital Imaging Group, in today’s press release. “In addition to its impressive resolution and 12x optical zoom, the Z612 enhances the overall digital photography experience by delivering the natural details, accurate flesh tones, and impressive color via Kodak’s proprietary color science chip.”

The Kodak Z612 has a 2.5-inch LCD screen that can be used for a viewfinder or for playback. As with other EasyShare digital cameras, the Z612 has a Share button that facilitates one-touch printing and transferring of photos. The Kodak EasyShare Z612 is PictBridge and ImageLink compatible.
