Joby Inc. Develops Flexible Tripod For Point-and-Shooters

February 9, 2006 – Joby Inc. of Santa Cruz, California, has made something truly useful for the rugged outdoor point-and-shooter: a flexible tripod that can be set up on uneven services or wrapped around nearly any object.

The simple yet creative gizmo is priced at $24.95 and was originally featured at CES 2006. The Gorillapod has a universal mount like an ordinary tripod and a support at its neck to keep the camera upright. Unlike a typical tripod, however, the Gorillapod features three spider-like legs, each made up of a continuous series of flexible ball and socket joints with rubber edging and three rubber feet for extra grip.

The Gorillapod is only recommended for point-and-shoot and compact style cameras, not DSLRs.
