InfoTrends Survey Reports 80 Percent of Pro Photographers Have Gone Digital

October 20, 2005 - The worldwide transition from film to digital has already made more progress than many may have suspected. According to InfoTrends/CAP Ventures, a market research firm, almost 80% of professional photographers now own a DSLR—and just over half of all photographers surveyed plan on purchasing a new one within the next year. The average pro takes 482 shots a week, edits 65% of them, saves "the vast majority" to a computer, and publishes "a significant percentage" on the web.

According to Jeff Hayes, a Group Director at InfoTrends/CAP Ventures, "Photographers are placing the highest priority on generating new business, creating a more efficient workflow, and using the Web for marketing and sales. Not surprisingly, when we turn to issues related to digital photo editing and the publishing process, their primary challenges seem to center upon workflow time, color management, and photo management."

The full InfoTrends/CAP Ventures survey, which contains information about professional’s software and equipment usage, image processing and reproduction preferences, and purchasing intentions, is available for $3,500 US. It can be purchased directly from their website here:
