InfoTrends Reports: Growing Number of Repeat Digital Camera Shoppers

June 15, 2006 - Repeat digital camera consumers are on the rise, according to an InfoTrends survey released yesterday. The study indicates that 34% of digital camera owners in the U.S. purchased multiple cameras, mostly from customers looking to upgrade.

“Today, digital camera owners who have more than one digital camera tend to be more technology-savvy,” according to the InfoTrends press release. Because of growing technology including DVD and music players, digital camera consumers are sharpening their technology skills, suggests InfoTrends, and looking for ways to improve what they have.

Compact cameras, ultra-zoom, digital SLRs, and camera phones are among the camera purchases expected to rise.

This survey confirms a February InfoTrends study in which the research firm predicted the 2006 year would be the peak year for digital camera sales. After the fallout, InfoTrends gathered that purchases would be made, not necessarily from first-time digital camera users, but from repeat shoppers.
