Hassalblad CEO Mulls Over Future of Company

October 27, 2005 - At last week’s PhotoPlus Expo in New York City, the CEO of Hassalblad, Christian Poulsen, was willing to share some thoughts on the future of Hassalblad. Most surprising is his expressed desire for more megapixels—ideally about 45.

Poulsen said that he believed more megapixels were necessary only because it was the solution to truly eliminating Moiré fringing; he was careful to communicate an awareness of the challenges involved with handling 45 megapixel images. Other specific design traits were not so surprising, such as compactness, handling, a professional look and feel, and image quality improvements at sensible prices.

Poulsen also reaffirmed Hassalblad’s commitment to Adobe’s DNG RAW file format, citing that standardization is important to the industry, which will speed up workflow and enable access to more images. He also reaffirmed the company’s commitment to going digital, saying that Hassalblad will aim for digital backs that will be compatible with a wider range of products. They will however also provide film products as long as the market exists.
