HP to Cut 6,000 Jobs in Europe

September 12, 2005 - Hewlett Packard announced that it will cut 6,000 European jobs as the latest measure in CEO Mark Hurd’s restructuring plan, announced in July. The plan aims to trim 14,500 positions from HP’s global workforce, saving the company $1.9 billion a year.

The 6,000 jobs that HP plans to cut represent some 15 percent of HP’s total European workforce, according to reports by the French daily Le Monde. The paper also reported that up to 1,300 of the job cuts will come out of the French division. HP’s French unit confirmed those reports in a statement, saying the cuts came as a part of a plan to “safeguard the future” of the company.
