HP’s Snapfish to Offer Pickup of Digital Prints at Walgreens
August 30, 2005 – Hewlett Packard announced that starting today, customers of its Snapfish online photo service will be able to pick up prints in one hour at Walgreens drug stores in Boston, New York, and San Francisco. Walgreens plans to add the service to all of its approximately 4,000 stores nationwide by September, according to a statement released by Hewlett Packard yesterday. Hewlett Packard acquired Snapfish, an online photo printing and image-sharing service, in March after its own service experienced lackluster performance. Snapfish was the third largest online photo service in 2004 behind Kodak’s EasyShare Gallery service and privately held Shutterfly.
Kodak’s EasyShare Gallery service, which has over 20 million customers according to the company, already offers in-store pickup of prints at CVS Pharmacy stores.
Separately, Walgreens announced that they would be installing Kodak kiosks in their stores, replacing the Fujifilm kiosks it currently uses. Walgreens currently has Kodak kiosks installed in 25 percent of its stores.
