FujifilmSept. 21, 2007 – In an effort to boost its manufacturing and research and development divisions, Fujfilm Corp. yesterday announced it will fully transfer digital camera production from Taiwa-cho, Kurokawa-gun Miyagi Prefecture, Japan to its factory in Suzhou, China. The Japanese Fujifilm Photonix Co., Ltd. division will then disband, scheduled for August 2008.

“There will be further acceleration in the development of digital cameras with distinctive features, combining FUJIFILM’s proprietary Super CCD technology, superior image processing technology, and the advanced lens technology of the Group company, Fujinon Corporation,” stated a company press release. “This will demonstrate our commitment to contributing to further nurturing the ‘Culture of Photography.’”

Amid increasing competition, Fujifilm plans to concentrate operation bases. R&D functions will be conducted under the new company name Fujifilm Digital Techno Co., Ltd, based in Taiwa-cho, Kurokawa-gun, Miyagi Prefecture. The business will focus on developing CDD assembly and testing.

Fujifilm will also subcontract its proprietary CCD technology (wafer process) to semiconductor provider Toshiba Corp.

Fujfilm anticipates the business move will increase efficiency and speed up product development.
