Fujifilm FinePix V10 Features 3-inch LCD, Video Games, and Real Photo Technology
Las Vegas, January 3, 2006 - Fujifilm announced the FinePix V10 today, an ultra compact, 5.1 megapixel camera with a 3.4x optical zoom lens and a 3-inch LCD. The V10 has a 1/2.5-inch Super CCD HR sensor and Fuji's Real Image Processor for low-noise images at high ISOs. Its top ISO is 1600, good for low-light performance and fast shutter speeds in moderate light. The FinePix V10 is small enough for pockets and purses at 3.3 x 2.5 x 0.9 inches and 6.2 ounces, but should still provide quality shots in various light situations. And just for fun, the V10 offers Break Out and three other in-camera video games. The Fujifilm FinePix V10 should go on sale in March 2006 with a suggested price of $349. The V10 follows the FinePix F10, 2005's standout compact from Fuji that paired the Super CCD HR and the Real Image Processor. The F10's high-ISO performance rivaled DSLRs in our tests, and Fuji has built in new features in thee V10 to encourage users to try available light photography. One key feature is the "Natural Light & With Flash" mode, which shoots two images in a burst, one without flash, and one with. The user is meant to compare the two images, and then choose between flash and available light for other shots. The 3-inch LCD has 230,000 pixels, specifications that promise a comfortable, detailed view. In low light, the Fujifilm FinePix V10 is said to boost gain on the LCD, improving the view. Fuji also claims that a "special amplification layer" makes the V10’s LCD monitor easier to see in bright light as well.
The FinePix V10 also features video recording at 30 frames per second at either 640 x 480 or 320 x 240 resolution, with monaural sound. Unfortunately, the zoom function is not available while video is being shot. The V10 uses a proprietary lithium-ion battery that Fujifilm says is good for about 170 frames. It offers three burst modes, two of which hit 2 frames per second for 3 frames. The third runs at 0.8 frames per second, but keeps going for up to 40 frames, according to the press release. Fuji says the FinePix V10 is capable of a shutter lag as brief as 1/100th of a second, which is pretty incredible for a compact digital camera.
