Fujifilm Announces Six New Cameras, Including S200EXR Ultra-zoom with EXR Sensor
July 22, 2009 – Fujifilm today announced six new cameras, including the first high-end ultra-zoom camera to include the Super CCD EXR sensor and the second EXR-based compact model. The Super CCD EXR is a 12-megapixel sensor that offers two special 6-megapixel modes, combining pairs of sensors to achieve either wider dynamic range or increased light sensitivity.
The FinePix S200EXR offers a 14.3x zoom lens (30.5-436mm equivalent), with a fast f/2.8 at the widest angle and f/5.3 at maximum telephoto. The LCD is a 2.7-inch screen with 230,000-dot resolution. An electronic viewfinder is also provided. Full manual controls are available, along with the option to shoot RAW files.
The S200EXR incorporates a technology called Pro Focus Mode, using a burst of two or three frames to create an image with the main subject sharply focused and a blurred background. Another burst-mode system, called Pro Low-Light Mode, is designed to combine up to four images to create a single low-noise image. The camera will be priced at $599.95.
The other EXR camera, the FinePix F70EXR (right), is a 10-megapixel model with a 10x wide-angle zoom (27mm-270mm equivalent) priced at $279.95. Like the S200EXR, the F70EXR offers Pro Focus and Pro Low-Light modes, and sports a 2.7-inch 230,000-dot LCD. The f70EXR is a lightweight model at approximately 6.03 oz (180g), with a depth of less than an inch.
The other four cameras are more straightforward point-and-shoots. The FinePix Z37 is a thin (19.1mm) 10-megapixel camera with 3x zoom and a 2.7-inch LCD priced at $149.95. The J38 is just a hair thicker, at 20mm, with 3x zoom, 12-megapixel resolution and a 2.7-inch LCD priced at $129.95.
The A220 and A780 are value-priced point-and-shoots, at $99.95 and $89.95 respectively. They offer scene recognition auto mode, face detection and panorama shooting. While both have 3x zooms, the A220 has 12.2-megapixel resolution, the A780 10.2 megapixels.
All the cameras introduced today are scheduled to ship in August.
