Fuji Launches Website to Cure Picture Phobia

November 9, 2006 – Fujifilm today launched a new “Best Face Forward” website, to promote their face detection technology as a “cure” for the picture phobic. The new Fuji site, geared for improving overall picture quality, offers information on the Fuji fd cameras, photo tips, and a game to win prizes.

Fuji launched the website after receiving results of a company-commissioned survey indicating the majority of people are camera shy. Fuji found that 73 percent of women and 50 percent of men felt apprehensive about posing for the camera.

Out of those surveyed, 44 percent would rather do laundry than smile for the camera.  Another 34 percent would prefer to spend their time paying bills, and a small, but noticeable 18 percent would rather go to the dentist.

Fuji found that most people felt uneasy about posing for a variety of reasons including their weight and hair.

“Ever notice how right before a picture is taken, subjects fix their hair, flatten their stomachs, remove glasses, stand sideways to camouflage a growing midriff or look upward to tighten a sagging neckline?” said psychotherapist Doris Wild Helmering in the release.  “The bottom line is that everyone wants to see themselves at their very best,” she said.

The way to combat this “picture phobia,” as Helmering called it, is to change the subject’s attitude towards their appearance.

The new Fuji Best Face Forward website offers photos tips from photographer James Ferrara and other hints about make-up, dermatology, and psychology to make even a license picture look better. The new site also includes the survey information and a Face Detective game with the chance to win a portrait sitting with Ferrara or a Fuji S6000fd camera.

The Fuji Best Face Forward website is available at www.fujifilmusa.com/bestfaceforward.
