August 25, 2006 – Fujifilm America announced yesterday the release of the pink FinePix Z3 digital camera, with a percentage of profits to be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Along with the release of a pink one-time use film camera, Fuji will also contribute monetary donations and mammogram equipment to the NBCF.
Launched in May 2006, the Fuji FinePix Z3 was originally available in silver and blue. The 5.1 megapixel, 3x optical zoom will soon be available in pink, the global symbolic color for breast cancer awareness. Fuji will donate a percentage of sales of each $279.95 camera to the NBCF, according to today’s Fuji press release.
Fuji also announced today the QuickSnap 800 Flash One-Time-Use camera, newly available in pink, with a portion of the profits to be donated to the non-profit organization. Fuji also will contribute $250,000 and two digital units of the Fuji Computed Radiography for Mammography (FCRm) system to the organization.
According to the NBCF, 211,000 American women will be diagnosed with the disease this year, and 43,300 women will not survive. Mammograms have shown to reduce the mortality rate by 20-30 percent, according to NBCF founder, president, and breast cancer survivor Janelle Hail in the release. “With the support of Fujifilm, we look forward to helping save more live,” she said.
Earlier this month, Eastman Kodak Co. introduced the EasyShare V705 Dual Lens camera. Kodak announced that for each pink V705 camera sold in the month of October, National Breast Cancer Awareness month, the company would donate $25 of the $349.95 sale price to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
