Weighing well under a pound (11.6 oz without batteries), the Fujifilm FinePix S5000 appears to have been crafted with portability near the forefront of its design. Although its throwback boxy SLR frame takes away the pocket-holstering capabilities many cameras in its weight class provide, the FinePix S5000 features Fuji’s forth generation 1/2.7-in. Super CCD HR (high resolution) sensor, enabling the S5000 to compete with a variety of mid-range cameras. Due to its weight and imaging capabilities, Fujifilm’s FinePix S5000 rivals both cameras designed for imaging performance and those intended for easy transportation; however, due to its lack of definitive classification, the S5000 does not surpass either.

With a MSRP of US $499 and appearing as low as US $379.95 online, the 3.1 megapixel FinePix S5000 may be priced beyond its ability. While the camera is extremely lightweight for an SLR style, its large frame makes it feel less substantial in your hands and more like a toy. Its high-resolution sensor does perform but unfortunately with the FinePix S5000 you will have to sacrifice manual control and advanced precision to enjoy the automatic imagery this camera provides.
