Fuji Buys Out Inkjet Printhead Manufacturer Dimatix

June 19, 2006 - Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd. announced the acquisition of U.S. based inkjet printhead manufacturer Dimatix on Tuesday, June 13. Dimatix is a leading manufacturer of inkjet technology that produces advanced piezoelectric printheads made with micro electric mechanical systems (MEMS). The MEMS electric voltage allows for effective pressure changes in ink chambers, making these printheads ideal for larger printing businesses. The company revenue totaled $78.65 million (9 billion yen) last year.

Fuji is 'enlarging its new businesses through aggressive mergers and acquisitions,' according to Fuji’s June 13th press release. The acquisition of Dimatix is the latest in a series of buyouts of inkjet producers in the last year, including the UK companies Sericol Group Limited in February 2005 and Avecia Inkjet Limited in February 2006. In total, Fuji owns 224 consolidated subsidiary companies.

In this most recent buyout, Fuji will acquire Dimatix's businesses including Spectra Printing Division in New Hampshire and its corporate headquarters, Materials Deposition Division, in California.

Dimatix will become an official subsidiary of Fuji in late July of this year.
