September 27, 2005 – Almost a year after its much-celebrated announcement, the Kodak EasyShare-One is finally shipping to retailers. The 4 megapixel digital camera was supposed to enter the market in June 2005 after its January announcement this year. The One was the first Wi-Fi consumer camera to be announced, but the Nikon Coolpix P1 and P2 were the first to be shipped. Nevertheless, today’s Kodak press release stated that the EasyShare-One is “the world’s first Wi-Fi consumer camera… making it one of the most talked about digital photography products in years.”
“The Kodak EasyShare-One camera combines the power of sharing, taking, organizing, and printing pictures into a single, highly innovative product,” said Greg Westbrook, general manager of Digital Capture and Digital and Film Imaging Systems, and vice president of Eastman Kodak Company. The company refers to its innovation as taking the digital experience from “point-and-shoot” to “point-and-share,” as users can e-mail photos directly from the camera or send them to a wireless enabled printer. “It’s the ultimate picture sharing device, redefining the digital photography experience,” Westbrook said.
The 4 megapixel Kodak EasyShare-One has a large 3-inch LCD touch screen, a 3x optical zoom lens, and 256MB of internal memory along with its wireless capabilities. The One retails for $599 and includes the wireless card. Eastman Kodak Company is partnering with hotspot providers to offer a free trial service to EasyShare-One users. Living far from a hotspot shouldn’t deter One users too much though, as the camera can sync with home computer networks as well. The Kodak One was announced at the 2005 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
