Earthlink Releases WebLife Online Photo Storage
August 18, 2006 – Last week, internet provider Earthlink released Weblife, an online personal storage space for photos, media, and files. With three new storage software programs, Weblife Photo, Weblife Back-Up, and WebLife Disk, Earthlink Weblife acts as a "virtual file cabinet and photo album in one," stated Earthlink’s press release last week.
As consumers continue to accumulate pictures, they must consider the added task of storing their images. About one-third of digital cameras users in the UK do not back up their photos, not having printed copies or CDs, according to an August 3 BBC News article.
The photo management software, WebLife Photo, allows users to automatically store, share, and print pictures, with editing options such as red-eye correction and black-and-white conversion. WebLife Photo automatically detects and imports photos from the user’s hard drive, according to the release. WebLife Back-Up also provides automatic backups to save chosen files or the entire hard drive on the web, with public or private options. With WebLife Disk, users can store files on the web and avoid attaching large files to their personal email accounts.
WebLife is Windows-specific and not compatible with Macs.
For Earthlink subscribers, WebLife Basic is free and includes 1GB of online storage space. For non-subscribers, WebLife Basic offers a 30-day free trial at http://www.earthlink.net/software/free/weblife and then is priced at $3 per month every month afterwards. WebLife Plus costs $4.95 per month for 5GB of storage space, and WebLife Premium is $9.95 per month for 10GB of space.
