EISA Awards Announced; Canon, Olympus and Nikon Among Winners


August 15, 2005 - The European Imaging and Sound Association has announced the winners of its annual awards, with Canon taking the prize for best overall camera for its EOS 350 D (also called the EOS Rebel XT).

Along with the best overall prize, awards were also granted for a variety of other digital camera categories. Olympus won best compact camera for their wide zoom Camedia C-7070. Fujifilm won the prize for best compact camera with their feature laden, high-sensitivity F10. Nikon’s high-end D2X won the prize for the best pro camera and Sigma’s 18-200mm digitally-optimized zoom won best lens. Panasonic’s 12x zoom Lumix DMC-FZ5 snagged the prize for best zoom camera.

Awards were also handed out for several other imaging products: best mini printer, Sony DPP-FP50; best DC printer, Epson Stylus Photo R2400; best scanner, Konica-Minolta DiMage Scan Elite 5400 II; best analog camera, Nikon F6; best memory card, SanDisk Extreme III; and best image tank, Epson P2000 Multimedia Storage Viewer.

The judging panel for the awards was drawn from 50 member publications representing 20 nations. Judging criteria for the awards include use of technology, how desirable features are, design, ergonomics and the value for money spent. In addition to awards in the photo category, the organization also announced winners in video, audio, home theatre and mobile electronics categories.
