December 4, 2006 – DxO Labs announced the launch of the software supplement DxO FilmPack to the updated DxO Optics Pro v4.1 editing program, which were both released today. FilmPack applies a film processing look to digital images and retails for $59 but is free to Optics Pro v4.1 users until Dec. 31.
“DxO FilmPack eases the transition for photographers moving from film to digital by preserving the characteristic color and grain habits associated with a variety of film types,” stated a DxO press release today.
With FilmPack’s more than 20 profiles of color, slide, black and white, and mixed films including Kodak Kodachrome, Fuji Velvia, Kodak Tri-X, and Ilford Delta, users can alter their JPEG or RAW images to look like those processed in a darkroom. Photographers who hate the smell of photo chemicals or users making the switch to the digital age can change the grain size and color rendition of digital film profiles and even “experiment,” as the release called it, in mixing film profiles.
A free trial version of DxO FilmPack is available until the end of December to users who upgrade their editing software to DxO Optics Pro v4.1.
The Windows and Mac-enabled update promises more fluid sliders and faster RAW image processing that is 2-4 times faster than its predecessor. Version 4.1 is available online and will be free to purchasers of version 4 after June 20, 2006. DxO Optics Pro v4 retails at $79 for the Starter version, $149 for Standard, and $299 for Elite.
