Digital Film Tools Releases 'Image Cut Out Tool,' Snap

February 9, 2006 – Digital Film Tools, the daughter of California-based visual effects film companies Digital Dimension and Digital FilmWorks, has just released Snap, a plug-in for image editing software that allows image subjects to be placed in various scenarios. The plug-in is compatible for use with both the Mac and Windows versions of Adobe Photoshop.

Snap, described simply as “an image cut out tool,” can be used to outline any foreground object and paste it into another background. Snap solves the problem of object selection by using “graph-cutting and segmentation” algorithms to distinguish even vague edges and attach a curve line to the foreground object. That curve line can be further refined by clicking and dragging its polygon points. The selected object can then be incorporated into another image or filtered in Adobe Photoshop.

Digital Film Tools makes plug-ins for Adobe After Effects, Adobe Photoshop, Avid, Final Cut Pro, Apple Shake and Discreet.
