Digital Imaging News: Camera Records 360-Degree Views

April 8, 2005 — Ipix Corporation today announced a 2-megapixel digital camera that records video footage in 360-degree views. The CommandView Day/Night Dome Camera is designed for commercial and government security systems; it’s certainly not meant to compete with the new Rebel XT, but comes with a 7x digital zoom on its fisheye lens. The CommandView camera images in very low light and uses infrared illumination for night-time shooting.

The camera works indoors and outdoors and can be mounted on a wall or ceiling. The camera can be controlled with a computer that has access to the web. Ipix uses patented software to communicate with the camera and change color and lighting settings and also panning, tilting, or zooming. Only authorized users can access the image feed and manage it over a local area or wide area internet connection.

Consumers can view images in low light, no light, and infrared-assisted lighting. CommandView can record in light as low as 0.5 lux in color and 0.01 lux in monochrome mode. When the camera reaches 0 lux, an infrared beam activates. This type of camera is used for surveillance, visual documentation, and forensic analysis.
