September 5, 2006 – Today, software makers of Paint Shop Pro and WordPerfect, Corel Corp. launched the modular digital imaging platform, Snapfire and Snapfire Plus.
Not to be confused with the HP-owned photo-sharing website Snapfish, Corel’s Snapfire “Alta” version is a free downloadable photo management program that combines online sharing with editing tools, according to Corel’s press release.
In light of Corel’s August study that picture-takers are “drowning in digital deluge,” Corel found that an overwhelming number of digital photos clutter users’ desktops. Half of the 767 respondents to the survey did not use a photo management software program to organize their photos.
Snapfire “responds to the mass market's requirements for truly easy-to-use…software where tools are right at the user's fingertips, and takes it a step further by integrating the benefits of broadband Internet access into the user's experience," said Alexis Gerard principal analyst of Future Image in the release.
Stating on the website that “Snapfire Helps Busy Moms Share Photos,” the program promises fast uploading, editing, and sharing with additional options to create photo albums, calendars, greeting cards, and slideshows.
Snapfire Plus is the upgraded version with additional video editing functions, priced at $39.99. For another $9.99, users can also purchase a modular component to the upgrade, allowing users to save Snapfire slideshows onto DVDs. The module will be available in the fourth quarter of this year.
Snapfire and Snapfire Plus are the first of Corel’s modular digital imaging platforms with more to come, according to the release. The free Snapfire version is available for download at www.snapfire.com.
