 Casio Z1200

May 21, 2007 – Casio today launched the Exilim Zoom EX-Z1200, its highest resolution camera to date. The point-and-shoot touts 12.1 megapixels, up from its predecessors' 10.1 megapixel count. The Z1200 also adds new features including face detection and motion analysis technology. The Casio Z1200 will retail for $399.99 when it becomes available in July.

The Casio EX-Z1200 succeeds two 10.1-megapixel cameras: last year’s headliner, the Z1000, and the Z1050, announced in January. The 12.1-megapixel Z1200 proves that the megapixel race hasn’t stopped.

“The newest addition to the slim, stylish EXILIM line represents Casio’s continuing objective to produce innovative products fit for everyone’s needs,” said Casio Vice President Bill Heuer of their Digital Imaging Division. “The EX-Z1200 incorporates the same characteristics from the EX-Z1000 and adds new features such as face detection and motion analysis technology which make photographs more life like.”

The Casio Z1200 retains the 3x optical zoom lens which incorporates CCD-shifting image stabilization. Besides upping the resolution, Casio adds to the camera face detection capabilities, which automatically focus and expose portraits shots. The Z1200 also includes the Exilim Engine 2.0 image processor that delivers motion analysis technology. Equipped with Anti-Shake DSP and auto-tracking AF, the camera can compensate for hand shake and moving subjects, according to the release.

The Casio Exilim EX-Z1200 also improves on monitor resolution with a 2.8-inch Wide and Bright LCD screen with a 230,400 pixel count, slightly higher than on the Z1050 model. The Z1200's maximum sensitivity mode of 1600 ISO remains the same as the Z1050's - still a downgrade from the 3200 ISO Z1000 model.

The Z1200 has a 3fps burst rate at 3-megapixel resolution, down from the Z1050’s faster 7fps burst at 2 megapixels. Typical of Casio cameras, the Z1200 features a healthy amount of scene modes (34 in all), including their signature eBay mode that resizes photos for the Web right in the camera. The point-and-shoot is also capable of recording movies at 640x480 and a wide 848x480 at 20fps.

The Casio Exilim Zoom EX-Z1200 accepts Li-ion batteries and is compatible with SD, SDHC, and MMC media. The camera will be available in silver or black.

Key Features:
12.1 MP count
Face detection
Exilim Engine 2.0 (Motion Analysis)
CCD shifting image stabilization
3fps burst at 3MP resolution
