May 4, 2006 – Just days after announcing the 10-megapixel Z1000, Casio announced another compact point-and-shoot model today. The Casio Exilim EX-Z5 comes with 5 megapixels in a slim metal body with a matte black look. The new model will be available at the end of this month in Europe and the United States.
Complementing the 5 megapixel sensor is a 3x optical zoom lens and a 2.5-inch LCD screen. As with most Casio models, the Z5 has an Easy mode and vast numbers of Best Shot modes – including the fairly new Revive mode that lets photographers take pictures of old pictures, which the camera then automatically touches up.
The Casio Z5 has a movie mode as well that records 640 x 480 pixel videos at 30 frames per second and 320 x 240 pixels at 15 frames per second. The movie and still image modes are paired with Casio’s Anti-Shake DSP system, which electronically adjusts the image during camera shake.
To make the trendy camera sparkle, Casio added key tones that can be customized. The camera can also display a customized picture of your choice when it is turning on. Other interesting functions include a calendar playback mode and a “direct on” function that powers up the camera when the playback or recording mode buttons are pressed on the back of the camera. Users can also scroll through ten images per second with the multi-selector.
