April 26, 2006 – Casio announced the 10.1-megapixel Exilim EX-Z1000 today, which packs the most resolution and the largest LCD screen of any of Casio’s digital cameras. Casio is known for its incredibly skinny cameras and the new Z1000 comes in a 0.88-inch thick body. The newest Casio includes an anti-shake mode, 3x optical zoom lens, an ISO 3200 Best Shot mode, and a 2.8-inch LCD screen with 230,000 pixels and Super Bright technology.

“The recent explosion in digital photography among the mass market is leading to an increased demand for greater detail within users image capture, primarily driven by users’ first experiences of digital cameras and the uptake of imaging software,” said Hiroshi Fujii, the managing director of Casio Electronics, in today’s press release. “Creative photographers will find the sleek stainless steel EX-Z1000 a delight to use when seeking to capture their own view of the world.”

With 10.1 effective megapixels on the 1/1.8-inch CCD, users can capture quite a bit of detail from their world. According to Casio’s specifications, this camera is poised to take the market by storm. It flaunts a shutter lag of only 0.002 seconds and a burst mode that can shoot 3 frames per second even with the flash. The Exilim Z1000 runs on an included lithium-ion battery that can take an impressive 360 shots per charge.

There isn’t a truly manual mode on this digital camera, but there is an incredibly long list of scene modes. The Casio Exilim EX-Z1000 has 37 Best Shot modes, including an anti-shake mode that uses an ISO 800 setting and a high sensitivity mode that boasts an ISO 3200 setting. Unfortunately, the ISO ratings can only be manually set from 50-400. This Casio has an interesting Revive Shot scene mode that refinishes faded pictures with new colors within the camera.

The Casio EX-Z1000 can record movies with 640 x 480 and 320 x 240 pixels, but only at a maximum of 25 frames per second. The ultra-megapixel digital camera comes with a skimpy 8 MB of internal memory, which will be about enough for two full-resolution photos. The Casio Z1000 does have a SD/MMC card slot as well. The camera comes packaged with a multi-function cradle that connects to computers and televisions while recharging the battery. Pricing and availability have not yet been announced.
